The Day of National Unity in Georgia is possibly the most solemn of all national festivals since it honors the 21 people who died on April 9, 1989, during a nonviolent anti-Soviet march.


When Red Army soldiers started to scatter the crowd of thousands of protesters gathering in front of the Government House on Rustaveli Avenue in Tbilisi, it resulted in the Tbilisi Massacre (also known as the April 9 tragedy or Tbilisi Tragedy).
